I have been fishin' through some of the posts on ERAU and the like and as an incoming student it is somewhat unnerving to hear so much negativity towards it. Now, except for this site, as unbelievable as this may sound, I have rarely heard bad things. And that is not from professor so and so or my admissions counselor, these are real world people. Now maybe there are other options or other means becoming a pilot, but if your goal is in fact to fly for a scheduled airline and more and more airlines require a degree, then what is the problem. Now money aside, as if money were no object, is ERAU a good education. This doesn’t mean better then Purdue, UND, or whatever you may wish. I simply mean will I walk away with the tools I need to become successful in what I have chosen. I'm not expecting ERAU to plant me in the left seat by age 22 or anything like that. Just go to college to do something I love.

I dont think that ERAU is necessarily a bad school... however the cost is outrageous and there are many other affordable ways to do it. Here is a thread comparing UND to ERAU. (this should answer alot of your questions about ERAU)

What would you major in? Many people here advise against getting and aero science degree. I personally agree. Aviation doesnt work out for everyone. Also, not everyone's health allows them to be pilots until they're 60. So why not get a buisness degree (for example) and have a back-up plan. Yes, this might require more work becuase its sort of like a double-major. I dont know. Im about to start flight training at my local FBO and plan to get a buisness degree when college comes around. I personally think that flying at a FBO is the most cost efficent way to do it.

I dont go to ERAU I go to FIT Florida Institute of techno.ogy about 90 minutes South of the school.

I am doing Aviation Management with Flight Option because of the same exact reason as mentioned above. It is always good to have a backup plan.

My current flight instructor graduated from UND and he is very good at what he does, and from what I read and hear UND is a good school to fly in. My only complaint about what I gather from that school (very little to be honest) is that the weather may suck fin the winter and if you look at the Sectionals the airspaces there are very few and far between with not much difference between them.

Here in FL, you get a great variation in airspaces and the number of airspaces around are tremendous.
DAB (where ERAU is located) is a class C with MLB (my airport) being class D 30 min to the south and then you have the nig mother of class B in MCO orlando international.

I pay about 30k a year to go here to FIT. And I have been living in Melbourne for the last 13 years. No discounts for state residents since its a private school.
I went to Purdue my freshman year but didnt major in aviation and paid the exact same amount being an out of state student.

My suggestion is to go to either ERAU or FIT. but thats a but biased on my part since I am from around here. If you want a better social life to go ERAU, you got Daytona beach and what-not. But for a more laid-back serious (oxymoron??) approach to flying come to FIT.
