Hey, Just wondering : Since ERAU started the 142 training, has it become more expencive? Since they give you the same estimate of 10K a year. Has anyone you know spent alot more money than 40,000 doing ALL their ratings at Riddle? |

A friend of mine spent $18,000 on her private and hadn't even finished it. I'm not sure how the 142 change will effect the costs. I believe the sims are pretty close to the cost of renting the actual aircraft, so it's probably about the same estimated costs. Remember, it's not the hourly rates that cause people to spend ridiculous amounts of money on their training, it's the extra training (XT) flights that go beyond the syllabus and thus beyond the estimated costs. You can count on spending quite a bit more than the estimates because of politics and other internal problems in the flight training department which trickles down to the student. We call it...say it with me now..."The RiddleRunaround!".

To be honest... Most of those people that are spending excessive amounts of money for their ratings are mostly because they are either not focused on their flight training or their just flying because their parents made them. Yes; most of the courses do go slightly over and yes things are sometimes not done in the students best opinion...but recently the top three department heads in the flight department were removed from their positions. I can say within the past three weeks that I have seen more improvment in ERAU's flight department than I have seen in the past one and a half years. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

While I have many ideas on why this happened. I am not a representative of the university so I can not properly answer that question.

supposedly a lot of money was lost this year, but mainly because of the hurricanes. apparently the school didn't like the way the flight department organized the evac flights during the hurricane. during an evac the instructors get paid 8 hours every day hotel room paid for, and some per diem. but apparently they had to bus the instructors home because of another hurricane was coming and they didn't want to keep the instructors with the airplanes and pay them as well. I was all but set up for an interview with riddle. then all of this firing stuff happened, and now the flight department wants to hire mostly PT instructors instead of FT instructors because they only pay PT $10/hr and don't have to pay for benefits. about training cost, remember that your CFI rating are separate, and they cost a lot more than anywhere else. unless you really want to work for riddle complete your CFI rating some where besides riddle. adam |
