I got it because I'm an ERAU alumni. The brochure says "Live your dream, learn to fly the big jets in one year!". Next to the quote, a picture of a Delta MD88. Totally misleading to the wannabe and flat out irresponsible, if you ask me. How many ERAU alums in the business are going to be impressed by this? How many who understand the reality of the business will rethink their support of their alma mater. Most will just toss it in the trash without a second thought, which is lucky for ERAU. I've been invited by Seth to come to CAPT to speak, as an honored guest, about the aviation career field. Yet, this same school sends me a brochure that is so full of BS that it prompted me to spend an hour out of my Sunday morning creating this post. Here's some of the highlights: As an ERAU alumni, I can "nominate for admittance" some poor kid who wants to get info on the CAPT program. That's a hoot. The CAPT program is soooo discriminating in those it will accept that I have to "nominate for admittance" a potential student. What ever happened to just taking anyone who could afford to pay? That's a lot more normal for ERAU. "Type rating in a jet transport aircraft" I can remember the good old days when having a jet type rating meant you were qualified to act as PIC on said jet. Crap, I've been a pilot since 1978 and at UPS since 1990 and still don't have a jet type rating. CAPT thinks it's appropriate to be giving MD90 type ratings to 300 hour pilots as an enticement to do the CAPT program??? Makes me want to roll over in my grave.....but I'm not dead yet.... Does CAPT really think they can train a guy to be an MD90 Captain in one year and 300 hours? That's what their brochure makes it sound like. That's what a jet type rating is, after all. Talk about cheapening the honor of the hours of experience it takes to attaining a type rating. "CAPT has been designed with the input of several regional and major airlines to be the preferred producer of top notch, flight ready, first officers" Wait? So the CAPT grads are preferred by the airlines? I'd like to see Seth name the airline that really "prefers" CAPT grads over grads from other academies. I know ASA hired some CAPT guys. They also just lowered their mins to 600/100 and hire guys from other "programs", such as FSA and ATP. I want to see the letter of preferece that ASA gave CAPT that proves ASA prefers CAPT grads over FSA or ATP grads, and then see that FSA and ATP aren't on equal footing. Still want me to come address the troops Seth? I don't think they would like what I have to say. |

[ QUOTE ] I got it because I'm an ERAU alumni. [/ QUOTE ] I got it too. It's a shame ERAU is pricing themselves out of existance. Maybe soon their start their own airline a la TAB Express... .What bothers me is that why the heck are they sending out CAPT mailings to Alumni!?! How much sense does that make? We've already finished our ratings...how much $$ do they need to burn through? Maybe they should put together a good, cheap, program and let word of mouth do the talking... a la ATP. ~wheelsup |
