Default What can u be other than a pilot from ERAU

The subject title is too long for the space above. The real question is : What can you become other than a pilot with an aeronautical science diploma from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University? My dad recently told me that whatever i choose to become, he will support me but he warned me that I could've only become a pilot with this route. Thank you 4 every replies.

The Aeronautical Science degree is just a degree with the minimum amount of schooling required to get a bachelors degree. The degree is for those who only want to pursue a career as a pilot and it really doesn't help you with anything else, but aero science isn't the only way that you can have a career in flying. I came into this school in the aeronautical science program, and decided in the second month i was here that I didn't want just the minimums to get a college degree. I really wanted to study something that would be more of a challenge and something that would help me in case the bottom ever fell out of the airline industry. I decided to switch to a meteorology major, and do my flying on the side.

you should check out the Global Security and Intelligence degree thing. If i were to go to Riddle i would probably do that. It sounds fascinating.

EDIT: i just realized i read your post wrong.

Jonnyb1225...Im in the process of applying to ERAU Prescott and would appreciate your firsthand advice. How is the Meteorology program there? It sounds so interesting. Also you mentioned you do your flying on the side, is there a way you can minor in Aeronautical Science and still earn your ratings. Or do you fly outside of ERAU. Thanks for your help.

well if your in the aeronautical science degree, you can always get your minor in ATC and go that route.

I enrolled at DAB as an Aeronautical Science major and am in the process of switching to an ATC major and a possible Flight Minor (which gets you everything but you're cfi I believe).

I did the Science, Technology, and Globalization degree and it was fun.

They also have several engineering degrees, and IIRC an accident investigator-type degree.

You don't need the AS degree to be a pilot though...and you don't need to go to Riddle to be a pilot either.

I picked the AS degree because it's what I wanted to do, but you can get a degree in underwater-basket weaving and as long as it's from an accredited university a degree is a degree to the airlines. You don't need an aviation one to get a job.

tripleseven...you can get the equivalency of an Aero Science major here at ERAU Prescott with flying on the side. It's called the Aerospace Studies Degree (ASP). I know a lot of people that do it, they fly at the FBO across the field called North Aire. There's another FBO called SkySchool, but North Aire takes things a little more seriously. As far as the meteorology degree, it is very aviation oriented (imagine that) but you come out knowing everything there is to know in order to succeed in a career in any meteorological field.
