Yeah we were told to leave yesterday....so I just took a drive to Pensacola to see my friend Dana who is in school there. A lot of my friends who didn't want to go to shelters either drove up to Georgia or got plane tickets back home. I plan on coming back Tuesday night probably.

I flew back home today. My flights are scheduled to come back Monday afternoon but until the storm hits, we really have no idea when school will be starting again. It could be next week or next month, or even more, who knows. It's so weird being home so soon again. Mike McM |

In instances like this, does the school extend the semester because of the missed school days. Or do you guys just luck out and get a shorter semester/ or quarters, whichever you guys have.

We have semesters. Its really kind of hard to say what will happen right now just because we dont know what the extent of the damage would be. If if would take a few months to fix the damage before classes and resident halls can operate somewhat regularly, they might just wait until the spring semester starts in january and start fresh from there. Its hard to say now. Hopefully everything can be up and running by next week. Mike McM |

And if so, do you get your money back?

My guess would be that unless you decide to just withdraw from the university, then yes. However, if you want to continue whenever school resumes then you would keep your credit you have there...I know have alot of scholarship money that i've used there that I dont want to waste. Mike McM |

woah where did we get next semester from? Do you really think it will take that long to get back up and running? Well I hope everything turns out for the best and that not too much damage happens. As for me I hope that if classes do resume I can get back easily since I am in Pensacola, I will have to wait till like Tuesday to drive back I think.

Some kid in one of my classes on tuesday said his RA told his floor it could be a possibility if the damage was so bad, it would take two or three months to recover. Honestly, I'm expecting a couple weeks. Mike McM |

im a freshman at ERAU DAB too and due to Frances, i flew back to california for the weekend, scheduled to return tuesday night. thank god for my dad's FF miles becuase i would have had to pay a lot more money. $80 is what it cost me to come home for a few days and it was only that much becuase i booked it less than 72 hours to departure. however, i did notice HP had decent prices for flights leaving so soon. i did some research on the night everyone was figuring out what they were going to do and found that MCO-LAX via PHX was about $360-400. good deal compared tos omeone i know who went to PVD and spend 600 on a one way ticket. but i digress. in regards to the days of class we'll be missing, i heard that, unlike HS where days are made up at the end of the year, we just dive right back into where we're supposed to be at that time. something like that. i dont know, but some way to start the semester.

well, riddle's current update states that the campus will be closed up until wednesday, september 6. who knows what will happen... we might be out for a little bit longer especially since Ivan is heading our way now. btw, will i be penalized by my airline if i reschedule my ticket after my original date of departure. im allowed one change w.out penalty due to the hurricane, but do i have to do it on or before the day i was supposed to leave?! i still dont know when i need to go back. |

Yea I doubt they would want to have us come back only to have us leave again a few days later because of Ivan. I'd call your airline and found out their policy. Southwest gave me one year to use my return trip. |

I just checked online, and it says that the campus is now closed till Thursday (when classes will resume). However, I did get a message on my cell phone from someone at the Prescott campus saying that if you left Florida it is just easier to come back for Monday classes. She basically said that there is a definate possibility that classes will be resumed normally on Monday. DON'T quote me on that though.

Where does it say that classes start thursday? This is the last update I see from the website. I hope they just wait until Monday, that would be alot easier. September 6, 2004 0100 PM Hurricane Frances update To: Daytona Beach Campus As of Monday morning, Sept. 6, it has been decided that the campus remain closed on Tuesday, Sept. 7 and Wednesday, Sept. 8. Once it is safe for students, faculty, and staff to return to campus, we will provide that information on the Web site, ERAU online (Blackboard), by voicemail and through the Media. |

Hurricane Frances update To: Daytona Beach Campus Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will reopen for classes Monday, Sept. 13. Students are welcome to return to campus at any time before the start of classes. Faculty and staff are to return to work Thursday, Sept. 9. Overall, the campus is in good shape following Hurricane Frances although there was water damage to portions of some residence halls. Students returning to campus should expect limited services, specifically food service, for the next two days. so it look's like were back to school on Monday. i only hope they thought long and hard about this next hurricane and potential for another evacuation becuase i think we'll all be a little ticked to leave again. alright, off to a long wait on the phone with delta.... |
