Default A few questions for previous students.

I will be going to DB this year, I am in FA 132 (Commercial Pilot Flight I ) and I am not sure if I understand how this class works... Will I just show up and walk onto a plane, or is this ground school where I sit in a class for 5 hours? Also I was wondering if I should purchase a headset before arrive or just wait?

thanks

Get ready to sit in a class for a few weeks, then you start flying. I didn't even start flying until my Spring semester, so be patient. Not sure how it is now, but when I started, we didn't use headsets in FA110 (PVT). I'd wait till I got there then ask your instructor what they are wanting. If you already have an idea, it doesn't hurt to already get them, just don't blindly buy a headset.

Good luck and keep us informed of how it goes.

On the same note.....

I'm starting in the FA133 class (Commercial Flight 2), this is basically gets you PPL-AMEL because I will have my PPL before I go (August 14th ).

I do have to admit that flying twins after only flying C152's and the occasional C172 is somewhat intimidating. How does this course begin. I'd imagine there would be a lot of ground school prior to actual flying. Either way I'm really looking forward to it.

Also, does riddle require you to have your own drainer, fuel stick, etc?

I took FA208 at PRC, which is I think the equivalent of FA133 there (PP-AMEL)...

The way they prepared you to fly the Seminole was actually pretty smart. They put you in a CPT for a stage of your flight training to help you get down all of your normal/abnormal/emergency procedures. You then pass a pretty informal stage-check in the CPT. Once you're done with that, they put you in the plane for real.

After you know all of the procedures, speeds, etc., the transition to the real plane is surprisingly smooth. Sure, you'll probably feel like you're hanging on to the tail on the first flight, but you're well prepared.

And no, I didn't have to buy my own fuel tester when I was flying at Riddle.
