Sounds like my schedule at PRC when I was a freshman. Have fun getting up way early to sit in a boring groundschool.

For some reason, they put me in a psychology class, and didn't put me in a meterology class Aren't they supposed to put me a meterology class for the AS major freshman year?. Other then being in commercial flight 2, and basic aeronautics 2. I think I'm in the same types of classes, but different times then you.

I would drop that AS success course. I believe that if have 15 credits you don't have to take it. In other words, if you can put it off one semester, you don't have to waste your time in it. And from those that I talked to that had to take it, it was quite a waste of both time and money.

Doesn't matter. As long as the meteorology class isn't a prerequisite for something important, you could put it off until senior year even.

Who are those professors?

I'm getting old.

6am ground schools are the bomb. Coffee and donuts help and it gives you an excuse to not puruse the USA Today in the loo after eating at the PFM!

ENJOY!

You might wanna get up earlier than that if you want to BE there at 5:30. Seriously though, this is a GOOD thing. Think about it. Florida is not the coolest place on earth. I do all my flying between 7 AM-11 AM. By the time I'm done, I feel like I'm in a sauna, and it's not even noon yet. Plus, we gots t-storms all over the place that pop up in the afternoon. With 5:30 starts, you have less of a chance of getting cancelled due to weather, and it'll be cooler. Now, if you're doing the sim thing (which I think is what they're doing now), it's the same temp 24/7, and the thunderstorms are pretty easy to predict.

I agree with whatever someone said before about dropping the success course thingy. It's NOT mandatory IIRC no matter how much they try to shove you into taking it.

And don't sweat the physics class, it's actually really easy, I managed a B in Phys I and an A in II. And let me tell you I ABSOLUTELY SUCK at math and anything relating to it.

Also come to think of it, I'd drop the Comp class too and take it at a community college. I know...I didn't want to do it either, community colleges kinda suck in my world..most people hear you go there and automatically deduct 50 IQ points. But it'll be worth it.

You have to get permission from Riddle to take classes elsewhere (at least that's what I had to do) and make sure it transfers but really do the CC thing....it's A LOT (and I can't stress this enough..A LOT) cheaper than Riddle's tuition for a 3 credit course.

Plus, when I was at Riddle we had to write every paper centered around the environment or some fruity-frou-frou crap like that. Don't get me wrong, I like the environment and all, but Riddle was trying to get me to love it or something. When I took the CC course it was pretty much whatever you wanted to write about, so of course I wrote about aircraft to my heart's content.

You hit on a good point.. I think that people should look more at community colleges. Why go to ERAU (or some other outrageously expensive school) and take general Ed. classes, when you can take those same classes for pennies and nickels at a Community College. Then after going to Community college for a year or two then go to whatever University you want to go to, to finish up the rest of your degree. You get the same degree as all those Schmoes for an extremely cheaper price.... (Also don't give me that you are getting a better education by spending more money at a big name university to do your General Ed. Because it doesn't matter in the real world. All that matters is where you get your diploma from).

COM 122 MWF 03:30PM 04:30PMS.Rowe

MA 106 TTH 03:45PM 05:00PM Staff

PSY 220 MWF 09:15AM 10:15AM S.Hall

UNIV 101 MW 02:15PM 03:15PM Staff 1.00cr

AS 133 TTH 12:45PM 02:00PM Staff

FA 133 MWF 10:30AM 12:45PM Staff
TTHS 09:45AM 12:30PM

I'm confused w/ 3 things.

1. Why am I in this university success thing....i had a B avg at a private college prep school, good sat scores, etc.

2. Why am I in a math class that sounds like the class I had in 11th grade.

3. Why Psychology? Even the Course Catalog says I should be taking Meteorology my first year.

However, I'm probably just naive on the whole process and am probably freaking out over nothing.

Advisors could be better. They have a hundred students, classes to teach and papers to grade. Most of the time I went in there to get my schedule approved, he just said "got everything" and signed it. To be honest, thats how i prefered it. When I was there we didn't even have online reg. like every other school does. They changed that in my last year there.

As for the U. sucess. Drop it. Tell them you'll be fine, and don't need to waste 3 hours a week. Or schedule another class that interferes so they let you out, then drop the other course. Bottom line, argue w/ them a bit and they should let you out- if its not a graduation req. don't waste you're time.

Don't worry about the order you take the GE courses in. MET 1 or PSY 1...no difference. You've got 4 years to get them all in. As long you you meet pre-req.s its no big deal.

Default Re: Schedule and Housing

My advisors sucked. When I had an advisor that is. The first week there I think I went through 3 different ones.

Seriously though...drop UNIV, it's just a stupid class they want everyone to take. My roomie said it was mostly time management stuff. If you can't figure out when to study and when to party, you don't really belong in college. That's what freshman year is for anyhow...flushing out the morons. Although, for some reason at Riddle there always seem to be a few hanger's on (present company excluded of course! ).

About the math, talk to the dean of the math department, they can approve anything. Get into the higher class...that one's just remedial algebra IIRC. Take a HS transcript with you if needed and perhaps a syllabus or old tests if you have them to prove that you've already learned this stuff. Sometimes the people in charge of scheduling just don't go too in-depth to what you've taken already and you have to do it for them. I've been doing it for about 3 years, get used to it lol.

And as for the psy instead of met. don't worry about it. If you'd really rather take met this semester instead of psy then change it. Go take Psy at community college. It's probably easier and definately cheaper. Besides, you'll get plenty of "aviation" psychology in that CRM class (I forget the call # ).

And like highspeed said, don't worry about the "order" you take the classes in. I've got credits that the course catalog suggests I take junior/senior year and I'm only a sophomore. So long as you have the pre-reqs to take a class go ahead and take it.
