Default Academy dress code update

Today we were briefed on the new dress code for the FAA Academy. The new dress code takes effect on the 19th.

Jeans are now allowed, provided they are nice and neat. Collared or banded neck shirts are still required. No shorts, no hats, no t-shirts.

Again, this is just for people who will come to the Academy before reporting to their facility. Obviously, it doesn't affect people coming from the field for training, since they are covered under the Natca contract.

Man, not totally ripping on you, but you're not that far from Louisiana, It's not blowing snow & arctic winds like alaska! You might see snow once or twice while you're there, but I wouldn't expect more. The wind is the biggest thing.

But look on the bright side, you won't have to wear snake & mosquito repellant and pull leaches off like you do in LA. J/K

Snow not so much, lived near OKC for 7 years, best we had was a heavy dusting of snow. Wind, very much so, and ice. Ice storms are the big thing there.

In OKC, you can expect the temp to drop below zero sometime this Winter. Bring a heavy coat, especially if you'll be waiting outside for the shuttle.

I'm pretty sure that means Celsius. It never get below 0 Fahrenheit. The coldest it gets here is about 16 degrees F.

No, I mean zero degrees Fahrenheit. Not every year, but it does happen. I've seen it at -15F with a wind chill of -40F.

Well, im not sure of the last time you came to the sub-tropics, but it usually stays above 70 year round. it sometimes drops to 40 degrees for our winter, but usually by the end of the day its back to 60.

its not as hot as, lets say, pheonix, but with a constant humidity of 90%+ it feels a whole lot hotter. So if you drop the temperature anywhere below 35 and add an ice storm, ill be one very bitter icicle.

So what kind of jacket are you permitted to walk into class with?

In my 26+ years of living in OKC, I've never experienced anything even remotely like that.

Look up weather records for OKC on the NWS website. You'll see lots of lows in the negative double digits, and highs in the single digits for December-February.

We were there Dec - May. The weather wasn't bad at all!! Gotta really cold only a handful of days all winter long. We saw high 70s a LOT more than anything below 40. It did snow/ice storm 1 time and they closed schools (even the academy was closed). Being from Utah I found it funny but for them it was VERY serious! The wind is ALWAYS blowing though...hot or cold!

Amen! The only good thing about being in OKC for Christmas is missing the 3 worst months of the year!

There are exactly 5 double digit negatives for December-February. . .the last of which happened in 1905. Since I've been born, there have been 5 records of below zero degrees. . .the last of which happened in 1989.

My point: It doesn't get THAT cold here. If you've got a coat, great. If not, there may be some days when you wish you did have one, but you'll manage.
