I'm scheduled for OKC for Dec 4. Wondering if anyone knows that the holiday break is like towards Christmas is, Dec 25 is on a Friday. The only thing I could get out of HR is that Dec 25 is off, not sure about surrounding days. Do we get Dec 23 or 24 off, maybe the 28th? I only ask because I want to get a flight home for the holidays now before the prices start getting out of control, and just need to know about what days we would have off.

I think that you only get the federal holidays themselves off. So, I would assume you only get Christmas Day and New Years Day off. My understanding is that all other days are regular class/work days. Maybe someone else will have more specific/more accurate info for you, but that is what I have heard. |

Yup you only get off for federal holidays, welcome to the federal government. In years past when say Christmas ended up on a thursday the President has declared the following friday a holiday, then you would get them both off. Pretty rare though.

I was in OKC last year through the holidays. We had off for Thanksgiving but had to return on Friday for a day of class. We didn't find out until Christmas Eve that the president had declared the following day a holiday so we had a four day weekend. We got a whole 15 minutes early on Christmas Eve and that was only because some really nice instructors let us go knowing they could get in trouble. New Years Day, President's Day and Martin Luther King Jr. day were the only other days off we had. We did get 2 days off for a snow storm-I was on night shift that week and the morning shift had to go in the first day. They were released early due to the declining weather. Don't expect weather days though-it really screws up the flow of class. If you do get stuck in OKC for the holidays, it's a great time to spend making new friends. Your classmates in OKC will be the ones that you remain closet to at your facility. I spent x-mas with 2 of co-workers and although I didn't have gifts to open or family to share my day with, I had a great meal and company. Despite OKC not being the best place in the country to be stuck for 5 months, it was one of the best times of my life.
