Interesting how, at the end of the article, the idea of using UAV's as FAC(A)'s is mentioned. UAV crews have been trained for quite some time to perform very similar tasks to an airborne FAC, but have never actually used them in combat. I would applaud any effort to utilize UAV's in this role, as they usually have been on station for hours and have been able to develop an incredibly detailed picture of the target areas. However, they will have to be careful to avoid the "soda straw effect" of their sensor packages in danger close situations. |

Haven't UAV's have been used for Type II and III control for a while now? Makes sense to me to give them FAC(A) status. |
