Hello All, I may be getting a new job within the week flying a Cherokee Six corporately. What would be a fair salary for someone in this position? I would be the only pilot, managing MX on it, the whole nine yards. Also, what insurance companies do you recommend? Looking for lowest premiums, but best coverage. Thanks guys!

Pay: I'd probably ask for 50k if I was asked but if they offered less (not too much less) I'd definitely entertain it. You're worth what you can negotiate. Call the folks at Compass Insurance (I think out of BHM...but they can cover you all over) I'll see if I can find the guy's name for ya somewhere buried in my e-mails. He does a great job keeping premiums low. I want to say it's "William", but that could be wrong...for some reason that name is stuck in my head. -mini

William Fitzpatrick Compass Insurance Just keep one thing in mind. There are thousands of insurance brokerage companies. There are only a handful of underwriting companies. The worst thing you can do is run around to 20 different brokers looking for a quote. They're all going to be getting their quotes from the same underwriters, and you will quickly be labeled as a "flake", and your premiums will reflect. Pick a couple of brokers, get quotes through them, then pick one and stay them. Last edited by TFaudree_ERAU; September 14th, 2009 at 10:01. |

Astec, If you're at 330 TT, I certainly would not expect $50K. Obviously if they'll pay you that, great! But flying a single with that experience, I would think $35K would be a stretch--even if you are managing the airplane. Rather than going with my conjecture, check out the salary survey that was posted in this forum on 9-2-09 by Maurus. It shows ME piston captains averaging about $42K. Good luck... and hope their pockets are deep! |

This "pay commensurate with experience" crap is ridiculous. Other than a slight increase in insurance premiums, it isn't costing the company one cent more to hire the OP at $50,000 than it is to hire someone with 2000 hours and management experience and paying him the same salary. If they're entertaining the idea of hiring the OP, then they need to pay him for the job they're asking him to do, not how much time is in his logbook. Your ME captain numbers of $42,000 are just that...captain numbers. He'll be a chief pilot. Tack on 10-20%. A good CP can find a way to make up the difference in salary in operating cost. Shopping around for a shop that will not gouge you on maintenance, doing your own oil changes, learning how to change a tire, etc etc. All of that stuff adds up in the long run and you can show the owners the bottom line at the end of the year.
