Can you pick up trips there? Or are you only allowed to fly your 7 on and then have to take your 7 off? How does that work? Also do you get to pick which base youd like to have, or do they tell you whats available at the time your hired? Thanks a lot.

| Keep in mind fractional companies do not have "scheduled" routes, therefore there are no trips to drop and no trips to add. There is no way to compare or equate, airline scheduling terms and practices. For example, you can't pick up a trip to PBI next Thursday because you don't know that there is a trip next Thursday. Even if you did, the schedulers don't even schedule the flight until the night before. Then you don't know where the airplane to do the trip will be to send to PBI.

... for the Alpha guys and anyone else who flies 7/7 or that same type of schedule.... what do you guys do on your 7 days off? pick up other jobs? bum around the house?. i guess it all kinda depends on what stage of your life you're at. but i'm a 21 year old, hoping to be at alpha before I'm 22, and I have no friggin clue what I would do with my days off. All I know is that I want them :P |

I do not work 7 on 7 off but typically can end up with 6 on and 2 or 3 off. After working 7 days and being away from home you will NOT want to pick up a part time job or something along those lines. I suggest- Get a hobby Buy fun stuff like a cheap boat or something for the summers Build an airplane (I did and that kept me busy for 18 months) Fly the airplane you built Go on dates Sit on your couch Sit in your chair Finally get in that tip top shape you have been thinking about Reconnect with old friends Make new friends I could think of many more

Some people have side jobs like instructing or part time corporate gigs. I for one spend the first 5 days sleeping in and relaxing. By day 6 I start to feel like a bum, and day 7 I spend trying to think up get rich quick schemes that I could do on my 7 days off :-) But seriously it is nice to have those days off to recuperate and get stuff done around the house. |

i think maybe i would try to find a gig doing some multi instructing(or multi flying, if part time stuff like that is out there), or maybe even sub teaching @ a highschool or something? i mean, potentially there is some good money there... you're only working half the time, so that other half you could be doing a lot of other stuff. real estate (lol), starting a restaurant, friggin anything.

Apparently, they stopped hiring first officers. I guess "slowed" is the word they used, but equates to the same. At least that's what the email I got last week said...

I fly out of Morristown, NJ (MMU) with American Flyers. I see many PC-12s from Alpha going through MMU almost every day.

After looking at Part 135 and 91 flying, I want to fly for a Part 91 or 135 operator instead of Part 121. I am starting to get a sense that 121 flying is like being a Greyhound bus driver. Everyday seems like a different day with Part 91 and 135 flying. Alpha seems like a stable company to work for, especially with the new German-made VLJs during the next few years. I was on their web site and looking at their work schedule and benefits.
