Default first officer programs?

forget the fact that you are buying a job. If it gets you the job 6 months early , then you will make that money back easily. Besides mesa and gulfstream, what other deals are out there?

Please don't clump MAPD into the same boat as Gulfstream.

If you're looking for a program similar to Gulfstream, look at Tab Express. Or for that matter, don't look at Gulfstream or Tab Express. They are to be avoided. Your future and reputation could quite literally depend on it, aside from being damaging to the industry.

MAPD right now is the only genuine ab-initio program in the country. I believe Continental Express used to offer one, but I've looked everywhere on the Internet and can barely find a thing. Anybody else know about it?

Flight Safety has a couple of good Advanced Airline Training Programs also. One with ASA, one about to start with American Eagle, and Express Jet (Continental Express) and Skywest are looking at the school to start up similar programs. What I like about Mesa's PACE program is the cost and the fact that it is almost identical to FSA's except for FSA uses the level D SIM. Either way, neither school is anywhere close to Gulfstreams "thank you for the $26K, now get out" program, MESA and FSA'S are far better. Good luck with your search...ILS

You do have to be an FSI grad to get the AATA opportunity, though, correct?

Not anymore...American Eagle asked FSA for 20 pilots per month. FSA said "we can probably provide 10 for now". FSA is going to open the programs up to the outside. you will have to have your CIME (If no comm. mutli, FSA will do it for you)and I believe around 300TT. If you are not an FSA grad you will have to complete a single and multi engine standardization phase. My suggestion is to have FSA send you the checklist for the Cadet and Seminole and memorize every maneuver and lineup, climb, cruise check etc. before you show up. FSA is BIG on checklist usage and procedures. I would also have the systems of the A/C memorized before you get there. nothing that you will not learn by reading the POH.

Good luck...ILS

CLR4ILS,

Are there any other requirements regarding age, education..etc? How much is such a course if you get accepted and approx. how long to complete. Appreciate your help.

Hierhier,
Age requirements? I think 21 for 121 right? Not an issue for me so I haven't really thought about it. Eduacation - no. 60% of the pilot group at ASA does not have a degree. Price is approx. $26,500 if you are from the outside. 3 1/2 months to complete.

Mesa's program looks to be pretty solid. The price of mesa's is better. I know a few people that have gone through Mesa's and they have said the program is great. The CRJ ground school was really good and definatley prepared them for the ground school during indoc. You are only going to get out of a program what you put into it. If the outcome is the same, then I would consider the price as a major decision factor. I am...ILS

If you want, check out www.mesalounge.com and post in the Newhires & Wannabies section to get opinions on PACE and MAPD.

Thanks Doug.
