Default Feel free to list any schools for a struggling student

Hi,

I am unfortunately not very bright in my studies. I only have a 3.3 GPA and all I really want to do is fly. Do you know of any with a program similar to that of UIUC's? At Urbana Champaign, they have an aviation program where you earn your ratings in 2 years while taking general ed's, then for the last 2 years you choose a major and earn a B.S. in anything you want. I would like to go there but I am nowhere near their admissions requirements

Thanks
Ahmed

A 3.3 GPA is not bad at all plus it also depends on how many extra circular activities you have. You should apply anyways even if you may not think you can get in because you never know. You could always go to a local community college and get your ratings on the side; which might turn out to be cheaper than if you went to college and did them there.

good luck

That's not bad at all, I was accepted to both Kansas State and Oklahoma with no questions asked with like a 3.3 GPA man. Just work hard and you'll be fine!

If your GPA is low, try working on improving your SAT and ACT scores. Some colleges have sliding scales to where if your GPA isn't that great but your SAT is good, your fine.

Yeah, I actually just got done signing up for my first ACT on June 13th. Will schools take just an ACT, and no SAT?

You only need one score to apply with.

I would suggest taking both the ACT and SAT, more than once. Usually, your score will be better the second time around. Do this by the end of your junior year. This way, you will have these scores to apply with early on in your senior year. By applying early, you have a better chance of getting in and things are less stressful.

It depends from college to college on what they prefer, but they will generally accept both regardless. OU prefers the ACT, but I only took the SAT. There is a table that has an ACT score that will correspond with what your SAT score is.

Yeah man. Just sign up for the tests early on so you don't have to take them far away from home.

The first day of summer I had to wake up at 5:45 AM to drive an hour to my testing site. It paid off in the end, but it still did suck!

You should apply anyway! I heard UIUC is having trouble getting students. They have admitted all of there standby list and there is plenty of room for more!

My "low" GPA of 3.3 scored me an $8k/yr scholarship.

Yeah dude don't sweat it. Just keep yourself well rounded (work, clubs, leadership experiences) if you really do think there is that much of a question as to whether or not you will get into the schools you want.

I don't know, the number 1 priority should be to have fun. I have one year left and even though I've had tons of fun so far, I always wish I would have done more. It's your last chance in life to get crazy and do whatever before having to be serious.

Buck up, man up, improve your attitude by not worrying so much, and screw everyone else and what they're doing or how they're doing it. Otherwise you're going to worry about yourself so much you're going to self-defeat anything you try to do. Have fun, as others have said.

Check this: I had a 2.4 college GPA; and I still ended up flying the Stealth fighter in the USAF.

So you're doing just fine for where you stand. Now press on.

Struggling.....my ass.
