Default Back From Interview

Hello everyone,
Well I just got back from my PACE interview. I think it went well, but heck what do I know. Should find out in the next few days if I got in or not. I tried to remember as much as I could so I could give everyone some good gouge. Here it is:

8:00AM Interview session starts with a psych test. Consists of 187 questions and they are all wierd. They are looking for conisistancy as some of the questions repeated themselves. Next came a 30 question instrument test, no figures, straight out of the GLEIM. Make sure you know weather, ie. how long is an airmet good for, and what does frost do to a wing. Nothing major.

10:00AM was an intro session with the director of the program and other students. Very nice people and they try to put you at ease. They were saying how Mesa is currently hiring alot of people because of new routes and aircraft deliveries.

My interview was in the afternoon and it was HR. Really great time and they were really nice. Lots of questions on what would you do if you saw the captain do...... (drink, wear a dress...) Be yourself...also know why you are here and what you can give to the program.

Later was my sim check, that was pretty fun actually. It was a FRASCA 242 made to be a Baron. Pretty easy stuff, they give you a pattern C to fly and an ILS to fly. They also give you power settings. The numbers seem out of wack but do what they say as that will keep you right on the glideslope. Don't reinvent the wheel I guess. You get a score after the flight and you want that number to be as LOW as possible.

After all that back to the hotel, change and debrief with everyone at the bar. PM me if you want more info. All in all it was an awesome experience and seems like a great opportunity. I hope I get in. Take care everyone.

If you get in which class would you be starting?

What did you think of Farmington?

If I get in I would like to start April 30th. Farmington is nice...it is really small and I am a big city kind of guy but I am sure I will adapt. It will only be for a few month so I will make the best of it.

Sounds awesome. Good job on a job well done. Hope you make it in!

How far is the airport from the college? Are there any kind of shuttle services or anything that you're aware of?

The airport is not far at all. It is a pretty small town. There is a shuttle from the airport to the bestwestern hotel and it also took me to the college. If you do attend I would recommend a car though because it did not appear that there was public transportation and the walk to the airport would be a long one...up hill both ways.

Please forgive my ignorance...

On the "captain wearing a dress" question, are they assuming the captain is male or female? I mean, that can change your answer pretty drastically....and if they are assuming the captain is male, what DO you do if he's wearing a dress? I can't find that on my emergency checklist.

They're looking for male pigs on that one. The assumption should be that the captain is female. If it were me, I'd ask the interviewer, "Well, do her shoes match the dress, and is she buying?"

Yeah, car (or a friend with one) is a must in Farmington. From the three days I was there, I realized there is NO transportation, and the school and airport are almost on opposite sides of town.

Oh, and my friend that finished PACE a few months ago has his interview set for April 20th. A lot of the people he was in with (both ab initio and PACE) already had interviews, and a couple have already been told they got the job.

Has anyone actually gotten the "captain in a dress" question? Honestly I thought it was just an urban legend.

It's still on the table, just not the ab initio deal. If I can get my multi comm (or even just my SE comm) by around Nov, I'm gonna try to interview for the Jan PACE term. I flew out there for a few days last year to visit a friend that was in PACE and to check it out.

I wouldn't think this is a good sign. If you are being asked an obvious "trap" question like that, it might indicate that the interview was not going too well.

Of course it might be indicating the opposite, that you are SO good that they just HAD to try and trip you up!

Gee, that does not instill alot of confidence. I think the interview went really well, at least that is what I felt. I think he asked it more of in a joking manner just to see what I would say. I know of a few others that were asked that question as well. His first question to me was what would I do if I saw the captain drinking at the bar with less that 8 hours until we fly. But hey what do I know. In a few days I should find out if I am in or not. I will keep everyone posted.

Just out of curiosity, how did you answer the alcohol question? Use the standard "try to convince him he should not fly, and if he insists call in for him?"

I answered by saying that I would talk to the captain and first find out if he is drinking alcohol and then just talk to him. If he was drinking alcohol I would explain to the captain that we can not fly because of the eight hour rule. I said that I would encourage the captain to call in and remove himself from the flight. If he refused I would call in myself and speak to the chief pilot/professional standards and have the captain removed.

He then asked me if I would ruin the Captains career by calling him in and I answered that I would call it in because we as pilots are held to a professional standard and we can not put the lives of 90 passangers at stake.

He seemed to like my answer and then jokingly (i think) he asked me the captain in a dess question.

Pretty much the same way I would have answered it. Someone once told me "whatever you do, don't let them through security. Then you're both on the news."
