Hi folks, Just wondering, what’s the difference between Aeronautical Science and Aviation Management(with a flight program)? Is either one in more demand in the job market than the other ? If you completed either one of theses degrees, did you like it, do you think one is better than the other? I know its lots of questions, but I’m just curious. Thanks Sterling |

I can speak for UND I geuss. I'm an Avit Mgmt. major and the differences aren't really all that much. The management degree here is actually run through the business school. You take all of the core business classes as well as a few of the advanced ones. The flying side of the degree will take you through the multi rating with the option of adding on the CFI stuff, even though it's not required for the degree. The advantage of the management degree is that it gives you a solid background in basic business priciples. Should the aviation dream die on you for whatever reason, having the business backround would probably open up a few more job opportunities in the real world. |

Yes i would agree with the post above. All about the job opportunity. But if you plan on getting your licences done Aeronautical Science will credit you for your flight training included in the degree i think and + if you are in the Aeronautical Program you will be givenm priority on slots for flying as opposed to aviation management. I agree too, I am an Aviation Management major at UND and don't know why people major in just Commercial Aviation when you won't have as many options available should your aviation career turn sour. Majoring in Aviation Management will give you a business degree (Bachelor's of Business Administration in Aviation Management), but you must first have a desire and interest in the business aspect of aviation as well as business in general.

At SIU you can get credit for your ratings in the aviation management degree. I didn't realize that was unusual.

My Aviation Admin degree only has like 12 different credits from the av degree...mostly business courses. I still take all the other grunts classes like a/c systems and aerodynamics.
