Default Well I refer to it as a checkride...

But I guess the proper term is practical exam.

After what started out to be hellacious day I added my powerplant rating for my airframe mechanics certificate!

Initially I left home at 6:55am and arrived in Addison at 8:15, funny since I only live 27 miles away. Once there the DME told me my paperwork wasn't good enough and he couldn't administer the exam. On top of that he told me that because of the paperwork my written was invalid and I would have to retake the test. I was fuming since my 8610 had to be approved by the FAA to begin with.

At 8:34 I made my appointment with the FSDO for 9:00. At 8:48 I arrived at the FSDO in Irving, then by 9:00 I was back on the road.

The oral portion started at 10:00 which I skated. On his grade sheet he only marked one question wrong and I will go to my grave disagreeing with his call but I guess I can live with that. The practical was mostly paperwork and took FOREVER. Finally at 3:45 he handed me my temporary certificate and I got the heck out of Dodge.

It seems once I finish up my ATP next month I'll be out of FAA granted initials to put behind my name until three years passes.

Dang it's great to have that done!

Now you can be a burden on those cylinders because you think of 'em as just a meal ticket, jerk...

Congratulations. You have achieved something that marks you as one of the best of the best.

P.S. Think ground instructor for more initials behind your name.
