Default How long to schedule with FSDO

Can anyone give me an idea of how long it takes from the time you schedule with the local FSDO, to then take your Practical Test, initial CFI.

Also can anyone recommend a good FSDO to go with, our local one has been known to Zap everyone on their first try.

I was thinking of doing my MEI first, any comments would be helpfull,
thanks in advance.

I lived in Jacksonville when I did mine (2003) and of course used the Orlando FSDO. Filled out the online form on the FSDO website. Can't remember if my instructor had to call the FSDO, but they got a fax to us within a day or so that listed 3 DPE's who were authorized to give the practical. As big as Florida is and as busy as the FSDO stays, they don't always ask you to come to Orlando, especially if you live far away.

Mine was about an hour and a half oral and an hour and a half flight. I passed first try... Of course, the ride wasn't with a fed!

Mine took only a phone call to schedule but the first date was 4 weeks out at the OKC FSDO. I went, busted and waited for another 5 weeks to get approved to go with a DPE. The DPE first available date was 2 weeks from the day I called her. 11 freaking weeks because the FSDO wants you to go with them first even though they are REALLY backed up and not looking to clear any time soon.

Same story here in Phoenix!!

There is about a 3-4 week wait once you call the FSDO.

ALL CFI initial ride have to be done by the feds over here. That went into effect about 6 months ago. Greedy DEs went and ####ed it all up!!

The feds here are also notorious for first time zaps. Out of the last 7 guys that had their check with the feds, only one passed first time round. Just last week we had a guy bust his MEI (Initial) and now has to wait until May for his retake. He had already waited 3.5 weeks for the first ride.

Passed first time around at the Windsor Locks FSDO, and it took a week and a half to schedule.

My memory tells me it took about a week and a half from the day I called them to have the checkride in the Twin Cities area. Thankfully I passed the first time.

Did you do the initial ride with a fed or DE?

I'm pretty sure you're the first person I've ever heard of doing the ride with a fed up here. Perhaps I'm just out of touch.

I haven't heard of too many myself either. I just went along with what my instructor said since I really did not know which way to go.

Well, I got a 3.5 week wait after I called the other week. May 22 is my date, and that was set up on April 24. Go figure!

Guess I have lots of time to study.
