Default CFI checkride PASSED!

Completed my CFI initial with the Houston FSDO yesterday. Overall, it was a very positive experience.

Oral 3.7 hours
Covered:
Learning process, Flight Instructor responsibilities and characteristics. Taught a lesson on Turns around a point. Went through unencoded METARs, TAFs and Notams. The examiner was surprised that he couldnt stump me on these, apparently its a common weak point for applicants.

Flight 1.5 Hobbs
Covered:
Required inspections, ADs, maintenance records. Clouds were building when we departed. Flew at 700' to the practice area under the hood. Once we were in the practice area the examiner flew and we picked our way up above a scattered layer to 5500'. Flew a so-so Chandelle followed by the most specacular Steep turns I have ever flown from the right seat. Did stalls and then the examiner flew a steep spiral back through the scattered layer. Flew Turns around a point and 8's on pylons before returning to the airport. Short field landing/takeoff and a simulated engine out on the downwind leg to a normal landing and it was over.

The examiner was full of knowledge and I picked up multiple things from him.

I did my training at Houston Southwest Airport KAXH. I can't say enough good things about the 2 FBOs I trained at. Dutch Wings and Texas Taildraggers.

Congrats on your success. I am hoping to follow suit with that as well during the course of the summer. Best of luck with your flight instructing endeavors. What is next? How long did it take you to get your training done....What a/c?

Congrats.

Sounds like the examiner was a stand up guy.

I started my training in February after not being in an airplane for 3 years. The airplane was down for a month during which I completed my spin training and my tailwheel endorsement. I effectively only lost 3 weeks due to the downtime I did all my training in an Arrow IV, spin training was done in a Citabria.

What's next? I am already on the schedule at DutchWings and will have students to instruct by this coming weekend.
