I went for my PPL Checkride today and came back only 1/2 of a pilot. hehehe I flew from my home airport to the examiner's airport and we went over all of the ground stuff, logbooks, required cert's, aeromedical factors, privileges, etc... Then we checked the local weather and looked outside and I determined that the weather was getting worse and I should head back to my home airport soon. The examiner agreed and issued me a 'continuance' form. He said my oral portion of the exam was passed with no problem, so next time I meet him, we only have to do the preflight, XC, and maneuvers portion of the checkride....SO CLOSE....but, that's the way it goes. As a head's up, my examiner told me that the FAA has had examiners meeting alot lately and trying to see why there have been so many accidents recently. They basically agreed that even though there are PTS standards out there, each examiner, student, and instructor has their own style. Expect future checkrides and oral exams to be much more standardized, strictly in accordance with PTS standards. My personal example of this is that when the examiner asked me "what are the priviliges" of a private rated pilot...I started spitting out priviliges, limitations, recency requirements, etc... I knew ALL of the information, I just didn't answer it the 'proper' way. As a FYI, if you know the PTS questions and answers, in the exact format there are presented in the small PTS booklet, you will breeze through the oral! Once again, you need to obviously know ALL of the information, it just makes it ALOT easier and quicker if you know ALL of the information, in the proper format. I'll fill you guys in on how the flying goes this Thursday....weather pending!

Good job man, I think the oral is more difficult than the flight portion so you are in good shape.

| Old Skool | That scientology link in your sig. . . is well. . . disturbing to say the least. Good on you for getting it out in the open. Even though I find a majority of religions to be an absolute waste of time, organized religion that is. And to the OP, semi-congrats! Best of luck on the flight portion! |

Thanks to all for the words of thanks and encouragement. I was supposed to go up for the flight portion of my checkride today, but once again, the Rain gods were against me! If anyone here knows of any good 'anti-rain' or 'anti-squall' dances, please let me know how to perform them, or I would even be willing to pay someone at this point! I should have gotten my PPL about 3-4 weeks ago but the darned weather here in South Louisiana has not been cooperating!

WOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Finally, after 3 weather cancellations and 1 plane breakdown over the last 2 weeks, I was finally able to complete my PPL checkride today! I also took up my first passenger. It was a friend of mine from high school and he had never flew in ANY plane in his life. As of, 8/30/06, I am a FAA Certificated Private Pilot...this is something I've been desiring to do for 20 years. It really feels great and I want to thank each and and person on this forum for all of your wisdom, encouragement, and enlightenment. Next step...who knows, National Guard, sell blood for INS, and Commercial...I dunno, but I do know that I'm not done yet. On a side note, after about a year on this forum, I can finally change my personal signature from "pilot wannabe"!!!
