Default Stepping out of the Helicopter

I am in the process of getting my instrument add on to my VFR only Multi-Commercial (are you scratching your head yet?) I have been flying helicopter for the past 4 years now, and have decided to pursue my original dream of Fixed wing aviation. This will mean a pretty steep pay cut for me. I live in the Dallas area, and after my helicopter crashed in late July (I happened to have taken that day off), it made me stop and think "am I doing what I really want?" So off I go. I will be posting here a little more since this is right up my alley...

P.S. My heart goes out to the Silver State Students and CFI's. This reminds me of another Fixed wing school in 2002-03 that did the same thing to it's students in Florida.

You can take the boy out of the helicopter but you can't take the helicopter out of the boy.
Congrats and good luck I sometimes wonder what if I had chose the other path.

Welcome!

What kind of helicopter flying were you doing? Also, glad to hear you are going to do what's best for you even if that means a pay cut in return. Happiness is important. I want to wish you the best. Lots of great advice and people on the JC forum. Stay active and let us know how things go.

I'm a helo fan myself and I recently stopped helicopter training to go finish my FW ratings.

Yes...that is a Bell Jetranger in my pic. I have been doing a lot of News or (ENG) electronic news gathering for the last year. I did some Air Medical work but that proved too traumatic for me. I trained concurrently in FW and RW but still needed to do my multi instr add-on. I thank Doug for putting together such a valuable resource for pilots and aspiring pilots. This really is a godsend!

Gotta do what you gotta do. Do you have any fixed wing ratings yet?
