35 years old currently employed with a VERY lucrative banking industry job.I will restart my training this spring here in Dallas. (Former student at Spartan school of aeronautics). My heart has always been in aviation and I can't get rid of the bug! LOL! I am currently single and I know that this will probably be very helpful due to financial and lifestyle adjustments.I will be happy just to make it to a regional comair, coa expressjet, etc. I would leave my current job in a heartbeat to have an opportunity like that! (Not to mention fulfilling a lifelong dream)! Well I don't want too take up too much time rantin and ravin but one last question. What are my chances of makin it to the majors?

Brent: You making it to the majors is mostly contingent upon you. If you are as dedicated and you sound, it can and will happen. This is an unprecedented time in the aviation industry where demand for pilots exceeds the supply. I admire you for making the decision to pursue your dream as the view popping out of the cloud tops surpasses that of any office, in any city. You will find many resources and many opinions here on JC. BTW, I too am a Spartan alumnus albeit an A&P type. Good luck on your training. Who knows, we may be flying together in a few years??? ![]()

I just started over. I am 34 and was in "lucrative banking job" and just moved my family 3000 miles to pursue a career in the skies for an annual salary of what I made in a month. It takes balls but I have never been happier. Banking isn't very fun. If you have any questions pm me. JOE

I'm here to tell you it can be done. Like yourself, I'm a former banker. Not all that lucrative, however ($38-45,000/year). I slowly made my way toward an airline job as I closed loan after loan over the years. I left the banking industry in August 2006 to flight instruct full-time. Making that transition was scary, because I knew I'd be taking a huge reduction in pay. I studied hard and learn as much as possible. I was hired by Colgan Air in April 2007 and currently hold the position of FO on the Saab 340. As far as I can tell, calcapt is right. Your success is dictated by you. Go get'em!

Hey what do ya know I thought I was to old..not! Been in TX for a bit over two years. Still in the same pursuit of the same dream(s). Been at it when able..now have logged 178tt working on my Instrument ratings and thought I would like to learn to fix planes as well Spring 08 will be my second semester for AMT(A&P)here at Tarant County College. My Goal this summer is to have my Commercial ratings out of the way. Anyhow I know of a great instructor who was also a career changer at my flight school, who followed his dreams and never gave up..got hired on by American Eagle last spring..he was in his mid 40s great guy..very professional. JC is a great place to ask questions. What next?? Follow your dream..

I'm not in business per se, but I teach it part time while I study. I'm 29 and am just starting ground school up here in BC Canada. I figure if I can spend just one day or one flight as a certified 777 captain then I know I did it right.

We sold our house to make it possible for me to become a pilot. It takes bold moves and big sacrifices to make it. Unless you have a rich mommy and daddy that will pay for you to go to ATP!
