Hi all. Im a 37yo male, recent instrument rated, going for commercial. In good health, finances no issue, and I have a supportive family. My question is-am I too old to jump careers? I considered a fast track school, but am reluctant to spend the money if I am destined only to be a flight instructor at my local FBO (which is still something I would love to do). Any insight would be appreciated. Brian

Too Old? I am 45 just retired from the Marine Corps after 26 years, I'm not really changing careers just going from military to civilian. I worked in flight operations for 16 years as a flight dispatcher so I would hope that experience would help me.

As a newb I'm low on credibility as far as the industry goes, but I would say you're not at all too old. I'm 44 and hoping to retire in about a year from law enforcement, take a 20 yr pension, and pursue professional flying so from that perspective I have some limited credibility as a fellow potential career changer. I say go for it but make sure you okay with enduring the low wages and hectic schedules that will dominate your life for at least the first few years. Make sure your supportive family is informed. Your wife, gf, or significant other should probably start researching things over on http://www.jetgirls.net a support and answers site about life as a pro-pilot's family.
