| Big Chief's Woman | How many of you are working part time to support your long time goals? I figure quite a few.. but question is... do you find that the part time work tends to get in the way of said long term goals or that it only helps you get further and further along? I have what i would consider a great opportunity for a new job and they're willing to allow me to go part time (very flexible) from now until early Jan so i can get my "personal agenda" accomplished, then from Jan 08 on, i'd be back into full time. So i'm just curious as to whether or not it's a decent route to go or whether you find that not going gung ho or having part time work tends to get in the way more than help. granted, i'd rather wait and go gung ho with my plans just cuz i could still use a nice break between jobs...just my personal choice...but it's one of those opportunities that you probably don't want to pass up for fear of never finding it again when you get back into the resume/interview frenzy. great benefits, excellent pay, very flexible, willing to go part time for awhile and very likely head up my own transportation planning section within transportation dept. it'd be a major challenge but who else gets opportunities like that!? it'd help me save up more $$ as i build my biz...i suppose it's always good to have those extra duckets...but having to only work part time would offer me the opportunity to keep a job and start my new biz...that's almost like a win win situation isn't it? guess i just want to make sure i'm doing myself justice and not shooting myself in the foot. |

| In addition to my full-time job I teach an extra 10-13 hours a week, which includes Saturdays. I'm giving up my free time now in order to save more and get back to the states and start training |

| With me I'm working a full time office job to support my flying. Unfortunately I'm not able to fly as much but, once I get my credit card paid off (3 more weeks ) I'll be blowing my paycheck more often at the airport. |

| Junior Member | I'm working a full time software job and CFI part time. For now it works great - the software pays nicely, has nice benefits and is very flexible with work time - as long as I get my stuff done in time, they don't care when I come and when I leave from work. Instructing part time works reasonable well too, I have 1.5 private students and an instrument student right now and some random people with different things to do on the weekends. The only drawback is that my free time is becoming really precious. Since my long term goal is flying for hire, my part time job definitely is helping me to get further ahead. So far there have not been any big issues or scheduling conflicts between the two jobs. One thing that also helps is that my full time job is for a fairly big local company, so some of my students work for the same company and have similar time constrains to mine when scheduling lessons. |

| I'm working 3 jobs, 1 full time at the office doing the 9-5, one at a hotel on the weekends, and one at a restaurant a few nights a week from now till Easter when I plan to take out a loan and start the training. I'll still work the 9-5 to pay the bills, but the other jobs are to pay off all my credit cards and my car payment then my credit will be thru the roof to get the loan. But then every minute before or after 9-5 will be at the airport, even if more hurricanes come this way (likely) i'll be there, it's my goal, gotta get it done. I imagine this will prepare me to have a part time job during 1st year pay to cope.

| Who said I haven't? haha. I just remind myself that working more and making more money and starting my training earlier is the fastest way to get to my goal (and to get out of Texas). It's hard, but when I do have some free time I don't really do much (again Texas) I figure I might as well be making money and getting closer to my goal.
