Default Well, here I go.

Hello All,

I'm a 32 year old looking to take the leap into flying. I'm pretty green to all this... I'm still trying to figure out whether to do my PPL through the local FBO, or get involved with one of the schools that are out there... you know, the whole "zero to hero" deal. At any rate, I know that I want to make my living in the cockpit, so I'm committed to doing what I have to do to realize the dream. I've been a Police Officer for 9 years, and now I'm in Security Management. My office is along, or very close to, the glideslope at KCAE... That sort of re-introduced the thought in my mind that I'd love the chance fly.

I'm looking forward to talking to all of you and bouncing ideas off of you guys. Thanks in advance for all the help...

Welcome to JC!

Look around, and read the thoughts and comments doing the same. Have you done any flying yet? If not, get your discovery flight under your belt!

Good Luck!

Thanks for the welcome. I'm looking at setting up the discovery flight through the local FBO, Eagle Aviation. They look like a strong outfit. I hope to have that done in the next couple of weeks.

Welcome to JetCareers! Good luck with your decision to pursue aviation. The people here are full of knowledge and very helpful. Make sure you post and tell us how your discovery flight went after you take it.

Ah man. . . I just moved away from KCAE.

But, I'm planning an IFR flight later this afternoon.

Welcome to Jetcareers, and best of luck with your change. You'll enjoy every second of it. I'm in the career change phase right now, with a supportive wife (suggamama - I kid).

Anyway - Good Luck! And if you want some great, inexpensive flight training - check out S&S Aviation out of Fairfield County. Look for Reid Huston.

Welcome to JC and congrats on having the courage to make the "leap of faith".

Let us know about the discovery flight, search these treads for others that are doing the same thing and ask all the questions you want. There is a great fraternity of people on JC and you will learn a lot!

Good luck and remember to keep things in check, take them as they come, don't be in to big of a hurry and most importantly.................

ENJOY THE RIDE!

I also think there might be a few other JC'r that are/have been at Eagle Aviation. Hopefully they will see the post and maybe you can meet up with them.

Since it hasn't been mentioned yet, before you spend one single penny on this, go and get a First Class Medical. If you cannot get the First Class, you cannot fly for a living. You will knock out several birds with one stone by doing this, and won't find yourself with some major debt and a crushed dream if you aren't able to get it.

After getting the First Class Medical, go out and hit it full force. It seems to be one of the best times in many many years now, as far as getting into the business. The regionals are hiring with some crazy low hour requirements, and the trend is looking good for the foreseeable future.

Lastly, keep everyone here posted with your progress. Most everyone on this board is/has/did do the same exact thing that you are doing, and the knowledge base is there. And, people here will definitely help you.

Good Luck!

I would think a cop could easily breeze through a 1st class med, but I agree that you should go get one. That being said, I got a third class last year. This year, I got a first class because it is required to get into ATP(where I had planned to go at first). My flight doc said,
"I don't know why you are wasting your money. It is the same physical for someone your age".
Indeed it was.

Anyway, welcome aboard. I too am 32 and began this endeavor last year. The changing careers forum is littered with my experiences that may help you out! Any questions feel free to ask!

Not really... A 3rd class only requires 20/40 corrected/uncorrected vision. 1st/2nd class requires 20/20. Everything else is pretty much the same though.
