Default For the 'older' ones who want to get into flying...

I have seen a lot of those who THINK they are 'older' asking about making a career change into aviation.

Just want to address this.

Age is NOT an issue when you apply for a regional, fractional, or freight company. You will have NO problem getting a job. In my crashpad we have a guy who is 49 years old who is pursuing his dream of being an airline pilot.

The only thing is, if I were you, and Dr. Forred could probably add more to this, is you might want to look into getting a FIRST class medical AND EKG before you start. That way any issues that MIGHT come up will be addressed before you take the jump.

PURSUE THE DREAM!

I agree with gettinbg a Class 1 medical before you start (at any age) to insure you don't spend $$$$$$$$$$$$ and cannot pursure your dreams.

That's EXACTLY what I did a year ago at the age of 42! Once I had that Class One, I knew I was good to go!

Hey I like your avatar. Is that "poke" you're eating..yum yum. Yeah I'm 34 almost 35 got my class one in June 2005 should be good til last day of June next year. The military keeps me fit..at times and all my physicals / blood tests have been all good for the military so far. Maybe I should renew my class one in Jan of 08. Hopefully by then I'll have my INS and COMM out of the way. Just got my PPL on Monday 23 April...I know age is not a factor cause one of our senior CFIs just got picked up with Eagle and he's in his mid 40s and a career changer, so it is deffinately possible. I truly believe it's ones piloting skills and positive attitude that will get you hired..at least we are past the reckless phase of our lives and maybe now we really know what it is we want out of it? ..LOL..never give up on your dreams.

My class 1 is scheduled for Thursday ..... I'm taking this 1 step at a time. By the way, I'm 57 years young, retired from my desk job, & looking into flying professionally!!! Wish me luck. Next step will be comm ME unless I decide to take the plunge & try a school like Flight Safety Academy. That may be too much to invest as I realize nothing is guaranteed.

Good luck on your class 1. You can always fly corporate or maybe even work for the FAA as an AI. I don't think there is an age limit there..not sure though. I'm assuming you have your Instrument and comm SE? I just got my PPL and now time building for the 50hr solo XC requirements for IR at the same time build some time for comm SE.
