Default pilot training question

Hi all. I'm in my 40s and want to become a pilot. I have a private license and want to get my additional ratings. Should I get the mult now and then instrument, or go with the single engine instrument and add the mulit after the commercial? Thanks.

We also need to know your times, but I was told that if I could afford it get the instruments with the twin. I didn't because of the cost and availability in the local area. I am looking at doing the CMEL first and then CSEL add-on, as the SEL at that point doesnt have to be a complex aircraft, and I have access to one!

Good Luck!

If you want to fly professionally the key is multi engine time. At your stage, as comlex said, without knowing your times it's hard to tell. But in general the preffered route is to get PPL multi after the single and then do IR in a multi, then multi commercial and then a SE add on. Your CFI initial can be done in a multi and then you can do CFII and SE add ons.

At the end of the day you will have around 200 ME with only an incremental cost to your training, but you will be in a position where you only need total time to become marketable. As a lot of people here can attest, ME is VERY hard to come by, so many of us end up having to pay for ME time AFTER we have already spent considerable $$$ on our training.

I have created an excel spreadsheet that compares the two options, PM me your email address and I will gladly send it to you.

Check out www.traverseair.com for your ME training. They have very reasonable rates. I am scheduled for my training in June.
