Hello. Does anyone here have knowledge on the bush pilot situation in Alaska. I have been looking into an aviation career and came across a school in Bethel Alaska, claiming to be a pilot factory for the airport out of Bethel, AK. It claimed 50k a year. I don't really have any ambition to stay in Alaska as bush pilot for too long, but two to three years seems like it would take care of the loan problems everyone is having. The death rate for an Alaskan bush pilot is 1/8 over a 30 year career, so the danger is there but over a shorter period the money would be worth it and you would most likely have a lot of fun. The article also claimed a chronic pilot shortage in Southwestern Alaska.

What outfit is claiming this 50k stuff in BET? Is there even such thing as a bush pilot anymore? There are only a few that I know of. The death rate thing is kind of mixed up....put a dumbass in a cessna in alaska and you get a statistic.

(delurks) My CFI three CFIs ago left to take a job up in Alaska. It was a hybrid position, some instructing and some flying cargo as a bush pilot. The last I heard of him was an article in the news section of one of the aviation news magazines. He had crash-landed somewhere in the wilderness and was stranded for a few days but was fortunately found and saved by Search And Rescue.
