Man life goes fast.... Anyways I havent been here for a while, I read my previous post and I have giggles reading them cause they are so un-knowledgable and soo....embarrising lol.. Anyways I'm 17 almost 18, live in Trenton Ontario Canada (60 minutes east of Toronto) and currently working towards my PPL with a lousy 8 hours.. Had some trouble in my early days of highschool skipping classes and such and finally I grew up, got a job, got my marks up over 80 and now im thinking of my future.. Anyways back on track, I'll be done next year in summer of 06 and I don't know how to pursue the career of being a pilot.. The one thought that scares me is there is not enough Regional/Major airlines in Canada to have a good chance of landing a job.. I know I could get a green-card and all that stuff..but what are the odds of getting one of them just for the reason of more airlines in U.S..? I've talked to a few people and they mentioned something about getting employers to take you in and sign for you but i doubt big companies such as regionals would go through all that trouble , why wouldnt they just hire a U.S citizen... Any advice on that immigration stuff? I know I may not even make it to that mark to apply for regionals but its a goal worth trying and worth knowning how to get there.. anyways any feedback will be greatly appreciated and wow i put alot of paragraphs lol C ya Andrew |

Other than getting a greencard or marrying someone from the states, getting in to work is pretty tough nowadays. If the greencard is your goal, your best bet is to get started on it sooner than later. Good Luck! |

My girlfriend moved down to the US from Canada. It took her family 7 years to get US citizenship. Not sure if that's typical or not but that's how long it took them. Some regionals will sign for you, I can't remember any specific ones but I do remember a discussion about it some time ago (here or flightinfo possibly). ~wheelsup |

Well, you should have some good chance to get hired up there. You can always send your application to Air Canada Jazz or Air Ontario. As far as immigration process goes, I am in the middle of it. I married with American Citizen. You can apply citizenship after 3 years of marriage. It has been cost me about 2000 U.S. dollars already. For citizenship test, you have to know all the U.S. history stuff. Do the research on the web, you should be able to find basic info. adreamer |

Can't a person get a greencard while they are in the process of obtaining US citizenship? That would at least give him the "right to work" in the US, wouldn't it?

If my memory serve me correct, you got to have grrencard first, before you are able to apply for citizenship. Greencard does give you the right to work in the U.S. However, they also want you pay tax ASAP ![]() adreamer |

An Indian guy who is a copledge in the coed honors fraternity (Phi Sigma Pi) with me told me that he and his father did not need a green card when they came. They applied for citizenship and got it. If you can get better information I found immigration attorneys here in US will usually answer a question or two for free.

Citizenship & Green Cards are granted depending on certain factors. The men from India could have claimed asylum seeker or refugees staus and as such had an easier time with the INS. The average foreigner looking for a green card won't find it easy to get, much less being granted citizenship like that. Read more about how to obtain one here- http://uscis.gov/graphics/howdoi/ead.htm |

Yeah im in the process of getting my green card right now. its gonna take 10 months, and thats because my mom is a US Citizen. It could take alot longer for other cases because, u have to wait for your alien number. After u receive your green card you have to wait 5 years in order to apply for US Citizenship. As a green card holder u have pretty much everyright as a U.S. Citizen, except you can't vote. I currently live and work in the U.S. While you are pending a your green card, you can get a Work Authorization card the I-765. Be prepared to spend a few thousand to get all this stuff done, I know I did.
