I have given up the bug to fly airliners, I was supposed to go to ARI-BEN last March to do the Military Helo to Airline pilot program. I recieved the VA bennies but could not secure a student loan to pay for it up front. So I sent out my resume and landed a job flying EC-135's in the EMS community. I am flying for a living, I am home every night, and I started out @60K as a Capt. Although it is not fixed wing I am living my dream. |

Man, if someone stuck a contract in front of me that said 'Basic then Warrent Officer School then Ft Rucker' I'd sign it in a heartbeat. Of course, fitting my 6'7" frame in anything there could be a problem......

We work 12 hour shifts, and a normal shift starts at 10:00 or 22:00. 2 on 2 off. 3on 3 off . Then we do the same for nights. I have been in the Army Guard since 1981 and flying in the Guard since 1986. |

I'll say it again, that is a sweet job. I'm getting dual rated and would love to see the day when I can apply for a job similar to yours. The time requirements, what are they? Thanks |

Most require 2000 total or more, 1500 of them in helo's 1000 PIC, 500 turbine, 200 unaided night. Comm. Inst. Rotorcraft. But just like the airline industry, it all depends on the needs of the industry.

Congrats man, that's cool stuff. EMS helos is one of those cool jobs I'd love to have. Round here, we got AirEvac, whose Aerospecials are flown by PHI pilots. Pretty cool gig.
