I only ask in this section because this is more of a CFI concern than a checkride concern, in my mind-although they are very close. With the retirement of Ken Coplin from DPE status, have any of you on here dealt with DPEs in the OKC area that aren't as bad or worse than the FSDO? I'm 1.5 hours south east of OKC, so anything in this area would be nice to have information on. |

Jennifer Wise is an excellent DPE out of Tulsa. Nan Gaylord is also a DPE out of Tulsa.

| $600 is for the initial. Other rides are either $300 or $350 last I knew.

I thought you had to do your initial CFI with the FAA which is free.

I was scheduled with the FSDO, and when I had my 2nd or 3rd try they asked if I wanted a DPE. I said no because I pay my taxes, and my checkride is already paid for, instead of paying $600 for Nan. Chris didn't like that I don't think, but I eventually got my ticket. So I've got Jennifer Wise, any others? I just found John Carrington in Durant. Any thoughts on him? | I'll agree with both. Jenn is pretty funny too; nan has her moments.

To the OP, if you want a DPE is who really fair and makes the ride fun, go with Jennifer, you won't regret it. Very laid back from the beginning and full of knowledge. However, she is a captain for SW and you have to catch her on one of her days off.

Yea, I'll either go with jennifer up in Tulsa or the guy in Durant, and report back on the guy in Durant if he is good or not. I'm just planning ahead, I've got 2 students right now, about to get a boatload more, so I need to get one in line at least. Thanks for the help

Will Degraw. He's fair. He knows his stuff. I had a few great experiences flying with him. -mini

Do it with John, then you can join the ranks of hundreds of Southeastern students who will forever say "Damn it, boy, this is how you do it" in a thick Louisiana accent. Also, you can be it will only cost you about .6 flight time to fly to Durant from Ada. Tulsa is a going to cost you a lot more just to get there.

Yup, plus all I'd have to do is sit at Ada and tune in the same CTAF and I can hear the radio calls in Durant, to make sure my student gets there, and then when they go fly

meh..come on down to DUA...we can go get some Taco Casa while your student is doing his thing. Also I have to ask...The lady that welcomes planes to Ada over the Unicom with the super sweet voice, is she as good looking as she sounds? Also does she even exist? I've never even seen her the times I've stopped and got out of the plane.

She was half good looking, according to people that worked with her. I never got to see her. But they are out of business and now a new FBO as picked by the crooked city council has been selected. Not providing very good services, unless you're the owner and want to store your personal boat in a city owned hangar. But don't expect to hear the FBO on the radio anymore, these new guys have stopped |
