Hey guys, While hammering away at my commercial flight requirements, I went ahead and took the FOI and CFI writtens (prep helped drive some of the key knowledge concepts home). Any reason to go ahead and take the AGI version of the written next while the info is still fresh? I've read here that a potential advantage (way) down the road is possibly getting a Gold Seal CFI designation. Aside from that...unless I could get hired at the school as a casual ground instructor before becoming a CFI... Thank you for any input!! Last edited by HelloCentral; September 18th, 2009 at 21:47. |

Take it now, you won't want to take it after 10 signoffs for the gold seal. Just get it over with while you're at it.

I never thought the Gold Seal was worth the money. Just show your pass rate in your resume if you feel a Gold Seal would help you get a job. The entire idea is a waste of money.

Am I correct that to receive the IGI certificate, all one needs to do is pass the IGI and FOI writtens and submit the paperwork? In other words, there is no oral or other practical exam?

| It is the easiest and least expensive license you will ever get in aviation....take the test!

It's not worth the ink used to write it on a resume. If you're actively instructing, you can take and pass the AGI test without studying if the need ever arises. (I did exactly that when I needed it.)

| Senior Member | I am being lazy, sorry. But would you mind telling me what else is needed to get the "gold seal." Is it as simple as doing this extra test on top of your CFI ride and other tests?

A story I heard. CFI hopefull on their initial checkride with the FAA. FAA inspector, " May I see you FOI test results?" Applicant, " I don't have those but here is my AGI certificate." FAA Inspector, " How nice. Now we don't have to mess with all that FOI stuff." Applicant (smiling) |

![]() Do you need both AGI and IGI to get Gold Seal? Can you just have IGI or AGI?

Don't forget the awesome perk of no longer being 'required' to keep track of written sign offs!......(where's the sarcasm button) If that's worth a 100 bucks to ya. But I did it too. After doing this for so long, sometimes you have to pretend like you are still making personal advancements. haha. Plus, getting the gold seal is like a super instructor way of renewing your certificate! 5 sign offs in 24 months, w/ 80% ? Ha. I'll see your 5, and raise you 5. The 100 bucks for the test, and hour to take it is less involved than a CFI renewal course (I'm assuming). Last edited by particlem86; October 27th, 2009 at 16:33. Reason: still raining outside. |
