Default Student History from the FAA

If a CFI has lost their endorsement records and pass/fails, can they receive these from the FAA?

I recall someone saying that they could, during the discussion about what happens when you signoff someone else's student who has already failed. Someone asked FSDO and they said something about printing out a list of 8710's that you signed off.

Of course, that won't replace the other information you're supposed to keep track of for three years. Seems imprudent to confess that to FSDO if there were any other options, unless you have reason to trust your contact there.

You can get all of the 8710's you have signed off. One of my instructors did that recently so he could get his gold seal.
