Default How many changes to the written exams?

Well, the thread title is pretty descriptive of my question. I finally have some time to relax, and begin studying to take the FOI and CFI written exams. I have old copies of both Gleim books (2005 and 2004 respectively). I was wondering if anybody has any idea on how many questions are changed each year? I figure it is small judging by the small amount of 'trial' questions on other faa exams, but is 3-4 years a little too old? I can't decide if i should go pick up some newer copies before I take the actual test!

$15x2=30...

15 minutes in a C-172RG... $30.

On the FOI though there is only about 170 questions in the bank so it can't be changed too much!

You can use the old Gleims to help you understand the formulas and how to answer the questions as they really don't change too much. Questions have been added since then so I would recommend doing some free online tests to make sure you can pass a test with no problems.

Just memorize the FOI questions online, don't even open the Gleim for that one.

I can't disagree with this advice more strongly!! After teaching flight instruction for the last 12 years, I'll tell you that the information contained in the FOI test is more important than the information in the CFI test. You can know everything there is to know about aviation, but if you don't understand how people learn you'll never be a successful instructor.

Buy a copy of Aviation Instructor's Handbook and study it. The test is simple if you master the material. While you can memorize the entire question bank, that won't do you any favors when your first student reaches a learning plateau. Students don't ask multiple choice questions.

Blue skies,
Rob

That is why you study it for your initial ride. The questions in the FOI are not very good at grading understanding as they really ask some questions that can only be memorized. I never said the information for the FOI was bad, the written test for it is a joke though.
