I was just curious what types of questions are asked at a CFI interview. Or even what the process was like. I'll be applying for a position at a 141 school in the next couple months when I finish my training.

Tell us where you are thinking about interviewing at and we may have some people that can tell you what to expect.

It all depends on the school. I had finished my MEI but still had a week to go before my single engine add-on. I decided to be proactive and went to a school at my local airport to talk to the owner about instructing for him. He wanted me to give him a ground lesson on constant speed props, chandelles, lazy-eights, and short field landings. He also wanted me to teach him these in the air. The school that I currently teach at, which is on the other side of the field of the school described above, I walked in and handed them my resume. A few days later one of the senior CFIs called me and I came in. It wasn't really an interview, it was more like, here is what you will be paid, and this is how we do things. He took me up on a flight just to see if I could fly from the right seat. I told him that I had done only about 30 minutes of spins, so we did a few spins and came back to the airport. He then pointed out my new student and an hour later I was instructing. I think every school is completely different in what the management looks for. My experience is apparently the normal experience for both schools. -Rob |
