Default 91.213 Additional Clarification

After reading 91.213 over and over again with a student, I've finally realized I don't know where the hell to find the instruments and/or equipment required by 91.213(d)(2) that were a part of the "VFR-day type certification prescribed in the applicable airworthiness regulations."

I found this thread where Don (DE727UPS) said to search the FAA site for the TCDS's and I did, found the link below which doesn't say anything about the equip. and instruments required.

slip though the cracks on having the information easily available.
I don't have a POH with me, but PIM's that do not reference any FAR or CAR in the W&B section where the equipment list intro page is. So am I missing that the required items in the equipment list (supposedly) include the items that were a part of the VFR-day type certificate under which the airplane was certificated?

The FAA TCDS file for a C152:

If the aircraft were certified under Part 23, then you would have to find out what Part 23 required for VFR certification for that aircraft. At the time the aircraft was certified. Good luck.

This is one of the "gotchas." As tgrayson said, this is a reference to whatever the regulations required at the time the aircraft was certified. And it may or may not be in the FAR - before the FAR there was the CAR (Civil Air Regulations) and a lot of the piston aircraft we fly were certified under the CAR. Notice the beginning of this language in the TCDS for the 152 that you posted:

==============================
Certification basis: Part 3 of the Civil Air Regulations dated May 15, 1956, as amended by 3-4. In addition, effective S/N 15282032 and on for 152 and S/N 681, A1520809 and on for A152, FAR 23.1559 effective March 1, 1978. FAR 36 dated December 1, 1969, plus Amendments 36-1 through 36-5 for 152 and A152 only. In addition, effective S/N 15285940 and on, and S/N A1521028 and on, FAR 23.1545(a), Amendment 23-23 dated December 1, 1978.
==============================

All of the certification requirements may or may not show up in the TCDS. So it's quite a chore - in many cases an impractical one - to leran what the regs required at the time of certification.

The Equipment list in the weight and balance section of the modern POH (POH = FAA approved flight manual that follows the GAMA format) "should" have everything that is required, whether the reason is regulatory or manufacturer-driven.
