| Im about to start up my CFI binder. I was wondering from those that have made one, whats good material to put in it? I mean like lesson plans? All the information from the PTS explained in depth. Theres so much I could put in it, just looking for a little direction. Thanks guys. |

| Senior Member | I used the PTS as my outline, and then made lesson plans (just as a rough guide) and then put all my notes in with them. Its about 5 inches thick and can hurt a moose. In it it contained lesson objectives, PTS, Completion Standards.. everything. |

| My CFI Binder has lesson plans for all the PTS tasks and then notes, diagrams, useful info, handouts etc.. placed behind them. It is a huge binder and is my external brain. I have some of the info I put in there on my website (still under construction) www.rachelpayneflying.com Good Luck |

| My binder has a lesson plan for each maneuver in the PTS and then I have every AC printed off that I deemed important. For the ACs most of them were double sided and I edited out the intentionally left blank pages so it was about 50 pages thinner then it would be normally.

| +1 on using the pts as an outline. kudos to chris and others like him who make use of pertinent a/c's as well.

| I agree on the PTS. You need a lesson plan of everything in the PTS, and put enough info in it so you can use it as a tool to teach. You may need more notes on some things and less on others. The thing to remember, is that your lesson plans are YOUR lesson plans.

| Long-term, and probably no one here is in the business for the long-term, a binder that thick isn't durable. Within a year, I had mine wrapped with duct tape; in fact, it was more duct tape than binder. I eventually broke my material into about 5 separate binders, 1) PPL, 2) CPL, 3) Instrument, 4) CFI, and 5) Misc. This has worked very well and they've lasted many years; plus, I just have to carry inside what I'm actually going to use. If I need it all, I do keep them in a plastic portable file folder box that has a handle. Only problem with the latter is the center of gravity of the box is pretty high; when I turn the corner while driving, it often flips over on its side, which is really annoying.

| Senior Member | I'm about to do the same here, thinking about maybe a binder for each different rating to keep them a little smaller and manageable. Anyone find how much they like going to Office Depot/Office Max once they became a CFI? The pen section rocks lots of binders too!
