| I have read many threads on here saying that they take lesson plans in a binder with them that they have already done. Generally how many lesson plans does the examiner make you do on the oral? If you have some already with you, do they generally make you do fewer at the checkride? Thanks in advance, Joey |

| I had 35 lesson plans or so. Some were 1 page, others were 5-7. Some were vauge, some were very detailed. The guy wanted to see my format but more importantly he wanted to see me teach off those plans without totally using the plans as a script. |

| Old Skool | So perhaps I'm lost then but if you arent presenting the entire time with lessons what is the CFI oral like? I really was thinking I had to get myself ready to teach everything from the 1st lesson to the FAA checkride? What is the CFI oral typically like? Other than long? |

There is only one formal lesson presentation, but most of the other tasks are geared towards your showing the examiner that you have instructional knowledge of various topics. He certainly has the right to ask you to teach them to him, but he may just quiz you in a similar fashion to any other checkride. I'm sure that varies among examiners. I suspect that a DPE has little interest in extending the oral any longer than he must, because he's paid a flat fee, and the longer the oral, the smaller his hourly rate. Inspectors don't need to worry about that.

| Old Skool | I would suggest, that since you do not know in advance what he will want you to teach. You should have lesson plans for any possible lesson he may ask you to teach. I had 2 binders full of lesson plans and the visual aids to each printed out. Plus I used the FAA Publications. They like it when you use their textbooks. ![]() Just over-prepare for it, that way it ends up being much easier than you expected it to be. |

| Desert said it. I had about 1 hour to complete a lesson why she ran to Subway. A ground lesson on Vmc. Easy. Dont sweat the small stuff just study hard and know the dynamics of your PTS and oral exam guide and you'll be fine.

| I ordered my lesson plans exactly as the PTS were ordered. Different examiners focus on different things, try to get a gouge on the specific examiner. |

| I went in to my CFI oral with a lesson plan for the oral. The examiner pretty much had me teach everything. Once I had shown him enough on each topic, he told me to go to the next one. He would also ask questions throughout my "teaching" so he would know I knew what he wanted me to know. The biggest advise that I can give is to not guess at ANYTHING. Look up what you don't know. |

All total the day was 8 hours with two fifteen minute breaks. I thought I was screwed when I got there. Two inspectors did my ride and they were helicopter pilots from Vietnam and had served together. Guy asked me which side is Port. I nearly crapped my pants. I had no idea. Dude proceeded to tell me that I would never make it past today. For those that don't know-Port is a 4 letter word-so is Left. | |
