| I just got checked out to rent at a flight school and noticed the CFI wrote in my logbook the time for both dual recd and PIC is this correct? If I have my PPL and there is a CFI on board is that loggable as PIC? Also a couple of weeks after i went up with same CFI again to do a couple x-wind landings and learn a little more about the A/P he logged the time the same as before. Sooo, is what he did legal? |

| Yes, it is completely legal to log both those flights as PIC and instruction received. They are PIC because you were the sole manipulator of the controls and you are rated for the category and class of aircraft (private pilot for "airplane single-engine land" aircraft). They are dual received because you were receiving instruction from an authorized instructor. I don't have the FAR/AIM in front of me, but I believe this is all in 61.51. |
