| No endorsement is ever needed for any instructor knowledge test.

| You need training in FOI, but there is no requirement to have the endorsement to take the written test.

| Here's what it says under the PPL: (d) Receive a logbook endorsement from an authorized instructor who: (1) Conducted the training or reviewed the person's home study on the aeronautical knowledge areas listed in § 61.105(b) of this part that apply to the aircraft rating sought; and (2) Certified that the person is prepared for the required knowledge test. You don't see that under the Flight Instructor certificate.

Here - everything you ever wanted to know about the requirements for taking knowledge test. http://www.faa.gov/education_researc...ing_matrix.pdf As somebody else pointed out - no endorsement for non-sport pilot flight instructor exams is ever needed. An FOI endorsement is needed prior to taking the FLIGHT exam, but is not needed to take the written. The ATP written doesn't require endorsement either. |

| I greatly admire when people double check. Trust nobody.
