Default Part 141 Instrument question

Here is the scenario.

I am doing my instrument in a Duchess but I have had thoughts of taking the checkride in a 172SP since I have a bunch of hours in it including some of my instrument training and it would make the checkride much easier and with the exception of maybe 4 hours before the checkride I would still get all of the multi time. The main reason is the duchess I fly is a /U so it has no dme and no flip flop nav comm (the real old ones with the dials that physically turn wheels with the numbers on them) so it makes things pretty hairy during partial panel vor approaches ie. fly inbound and quickly crank wheels on nav to get vor to identify FAF, then quickly turn VOR to desired heading so I know if I am at the FAF all while holding heading without VOR guidance, quickly see that I cross FAF, start time, crank wheels on nav back to inbound VOR station, crank VOR to inbound heading I am tracking etc etc. You can see it makes things pretty interesting.

So the question is...If I took a checkride in a single, could I finish the ride and hop in the duchess for a single engine approach so I dont have a restriction on my MEL rating or would I have to do the checkride all over again or wait till my CMEL?

How about this...If I take it in the duchess, will I have a restriction on my SEL rating until either my CSEL rating or.......?

Something I was curious about, I will be doing alot of solo hours for the commercial and I will probably jump back and forth between the duchess and the SP (the SP is much nicer for long XC's) and it would be a bummer to not be instrument rated in one or the other with all those flights.

Take the ride in the Duchess. Then you are multi AND single instrument rated and you do not have to use two aircraft. A rating is a rating, and is applied to the certificate(s) you possess. The only differences in this case are the additional items on the PTS to qualify for IR-MEL.

Why not just take the checkride in the single and then get the multi again when you get your Commercial; which I'm assuming you will get anyway? 2 birds with 1 stone...
