Often I read so many of the negitive aspects of this job, just wondering what is one thing you really love about it. I love to introduce students to new things and see the look on their face, wheather it be the first XC, view of the city at night, or flying in some rain. When I can tell they are thinking, "Ya, now this is why I wanna do this stuff."

For me it was always the thrill, joy, and amazement seen in the eyes of a student after a first solo. From age 16 to 75, everyone who loves flying comes back with that same look. Of course, there's nothing like the fear seen in the eyes of the instructor, especially during that second and third landing! Pat Murphy

I was going to give a serious answer but I just spit my drink all over myself. (BTW, when are you going to be up this way again long enough to say hello?) Seriously, Chinook, I haven't a clue. Of course, the same things strike me that strike others - watching someone "get it" and do something they haven't done before is great. But I really don't know why I love to teach - I just know that I've been drawn to it since I was a kid. I'm the annoying guy who learns something new and immediately figures out a way to explain it to everyone else so they can do it/understand it too. I suspect the reasons are completely selfish.

seriously, i like instructing when i have a good student who is motivated, who studies, and is flying for fun. it's not fun when you get people who are trying to rush through certificates and ratings just to check boxes and who are constantly telling you "yeah yeah yeah, i read this" but who don't know the answers to any of the questions you ask. flying is fun with a student who isn't concerned with squeezing every penny out of every dollar.....take a trip to get $250 bbq lunch once in awhile. when somebody doesn't argue with you about charging for .3 of ground. when 1 of the planes at your school is 100%, totally, completely functional. this is when instructing is fun.
