Alright, this is for all you CFIs.. I was just curious how you guys log dual given in YOUR logbook. Do you just write "Lesson 1 and the students name", or do you guys write the students name and all the maneuvers you did as well? Also, when you guys make an entry into the students logbook with a training flight in the local practice area, in the TO/FROM section, do you guys write for example ATL - ATL or ATL - LOCAL? Anyway, I was just curious what you guys do?

I always tried to fit everything we did in my log book as well as the students. As for the To & From, I put exactly that. Where you takeoff and where you land. |

Everything that goes in my students logbook goes in my logbook along with who they are and what they're working on.

At my school all the students and instructors have a syllabus. Thus I will write in the remarks section, for example, lesson 2.15 instrument complete. I write the same in my book but include the students name. As far as the other question I write where we took off and where we landed.

I just write the student's name in my logbook. =But= I have an independent record of what was covered. I use "Local" but that only beacause it was somehting I go used to for my own recordkeeping. It's neither right nor wrong. |

I put the students name and all of the maneuvers that were covered. If we do a local flight, I log GFK-GFK or whatever.

I write student's name and what was covered. While I have my own syllabus and follow it, sometimes we have to perhaps skip forward on starting one maneuver or fall back to learn another due to various reasons - we don't always follow lessons verbatim. I also note in the syllabus (which each student gets and carries a bound and laminated copy of) what we worked on each lesson - there are spots to mark off what was worked on a particular day and make comments as necessary. That way if we don't have time, for example, to hit on one of the items in a particular lesson, I'll leave it blank and we'll know to start with that the next time out. And all that is backed up and noted in my logbook as well...I never want to ask a student "I demo'ed this for you already, right?" I want to know exactly what we did and HOW he/she did it (what needed working on or revisiting, what was done well). On the logbook entries, I just put airport identifier followed by "LCL" for practice area flights. -Sarah |

In the students logbook I put what manuevers we did and usually put where we took off and landed, so like Hef-Hef. In my logbook I just put the students name, and what I was prepping him/her for. If it was instrument training, I get more specific. But usually in my logbook I'll just put like John Doe - Commercial Multi Prep. I don't train Private Pilots, just Instrument, Commercial and Add-ons. I don't have time to fill in every detail in my logbook, I barely have time to fill the thing out anymore. |
