| Junior Member | it seems hard to get a straight definite answer. the jeppesen syllabus says 35 hours of training to obtain your instrument add on. the 35 hours of training, is this total training in the airplane, or total number of simulated/actual instrument hours ? |

Basically, it depends on the schools TCO. For most, it will spell out 35 hours of training. Not all of that will be Sim Instrument - some will be taxiing, some will be hood, some will be XC, etc, etc. It's all in the TCO. If the TCO doens't spell it out, don't read extra regulations into it. The thinking has already been done.

| Senior Member | To answer the original question, the FAA approved syllabus for the 141 school will typically allow no more than half of those hours to be in a flight training device ("simulator"). For example, ours calls for 37 hours, no more than 18 of which can be done in the FTD. |
