Default Best way....

Whats the best way to calm down before the initial CFI checkride? I mean I've studied and studied and studied some more, and I feel like I know quite a bit. I feel pretty confident that I can pass this MEI tomorrow morning, but I've never been this nervous about a checkride before. If I bust its going to be because of these nerves. There is a lot riding on this because if I fail, I gotta fly my butt to Jax, take a 1hr retraining flight, than fly back to FLL for a recheck. I've already been away from home for 2 weeks and I really want to get back. A bust would really kick me in the nads.
Anyone have any good methods they like to use to relax before a checkride? I gotta be up at 6am to be there by 7, and I know I'm not going to get any sleep tonight.

If you have a playstation or some computer game you like to play, go play it for a bit. Use that to relax. A bust is a bust, and even if you do, you'll get an extra bit of multi time so your airline dreams might be just a bit closer

Watch some tv, go to the beach (I have no idea what the temp is in JAX), just do what it takes to get your mind off of it.

Why did you choose to do the MEI first?

Did they give you the gouge? You with Jay or Troy? Follow them if so. Mr. Black likes going over sectionals, performance charts..The worst part I thought is that he asks you questions while you do your airwork. Like he asked me why I have to pull back and add a little bit of power in the middle of steep turns....I was like, YOU ASK NOW?!

Yeah I've got the gouge, I think I can pretty much answer or explain most of whats on there. I think I'll do good in the oral. I pretty much know my stuff and as long as I can keep the nerves away, I shouldn't have a problem explaining things. I'm more worried about the flight. I don't want to do something stupid and I hope my steep turns are good. I've heard that Mr. Black is very thorough, fair and he's a pretty nice guy. I'm just saying my prayers that I can stay on top of things. When I get in the airplane I do a good job of getting in the zone and getting down to business. I've had a few ocassions where for whatever reason, my confidence gets thrown off and I feel like I start sinking in my seat and falling behind the airplane. That happened on my first CFI training flight, I got behind the airlane before we even took off and it set a bad tone for the flight. But my last flight I was sharp as a tack and really felt confident and flew well. So I'm hoping and praying that I can do the same in the checkride. It will help if Mr. Black is somewhat laid back in the plane and doesn't shout and yell and point out that he knows more than I do. I've had an examiner do that and it just really took the fun part out of flying to point where I almost said "Ya know what....this checkride is over. I'm not flying with you." Whats the deal with crazy examiners making things 10x harder than they have to be? I mean they know that you're already nervous. Sure you have to be able to handle situations in the airplane, but making you feel like an idiot is more personal than it is flying the plane. Dude was lucky I didn't flip out and report him to the FAA.

Wink

Drink heavily in the head before meeting up with the examiner. If he asks....just claim you accidently swallowed fuel from the sump when sampling....

Might I direct you to Ms. Rosey Palm and her five friends?

So, was it Rosey Palm or the Gameboy that helped?

Actually I think it was rest and sleep. I spent most of yesterday preparing for the checkride with my eyes closed on the couch. I was exhausted. I figured the best way to relax was to get good rest. Sure enough I wasn't that nervous. I still had the nerves, but I was able to calm them down enough to get through it.
