Default Books for CFI\'s

Other than the books used to prepare for the written and practical, are there any books out there that give tips and advice on being a CFI. I'm looking more for a book that would go in depth about teaching, judgement, tips for common problems that students have mastering, etc. It would be a book more written for someone who is already CFI.

Saavy Flight Instructor

This is about the business side of being a CFI

Instructional Methods for Flight Instructors

I haven't read this one... I just found it and think I might get it for myself too...

Hey Grabo, just out of curiosity, what does the "words mean things" mean, or what is it referring to?

That was a something my Instrument Instructor, Jeff Zimring, used to say...

And I've adopted that to my CFIing and my Navy Instructoring too.

For example...

"Active" Means the runway, at a towered airport, on which the tower is coordinating the Takeoffs and Landings.

So, by asking the unicom operator at a NON-towered airport, "What's your active?" The correct response should be... "We don't have an "active" but the runway in use is RW 17"

See, "Words Mean Things"

I like these books suggested-- I also like an older book by WIlliam Kershner-- The Flight Instructors Manual... it's really funny and very comprehensive if maybe a little outdated (I have an old version).

(he put out a good book that I used for Aerobatics as well)

Good luck-
