| I've just completed the FOI and now I'm starting the studying for the FIA. Since the AGI is the same content, then I'll take it at the same time as the FIA if I'm going to take it at all. My question is, should I? I read the page in the Gleim that tells what you can do with it but I only want to spend an extra $80 if it could have some benefit for me. Thanks. |

| Old Skool | If ya wanna go Gold Seal, you'll need it. If you wind up losing your medical at some point, you can use it as a sim instructor later on. Right now, I don't have the $80 for the exam, but I plan on taking it at some point in the near future. |

| i seem to remember somewhere in the FOI reading a chapter on professionalism, constantly striving to acquire knowledge and skills to become a more effective instructor... |

| Senior Member | I did it - my theory (and hope) is that it will make the FOI portion of the CFI checkride easier because the examiner will see that I've had some experience in instructing and have shown committment to being an instructor. Got the idea from Seggy. |

[/ QUOTE ] That's exactly what happened to be on my CFI initial checkride, even though I hadn't actually used the AGI for anything. The examiner said "I see you have your AGI, so I'm sure you're sick of FOI stuff, so we'll skip over that." It made the oral a lot easier. |

| Except I took mine a month before yours, and when you were asking me what your checkride would be like, I gave you that exact quote. ![]() |

| Senior Member | I would think the likelyhood of a Flight Instructor teaching comerical ground school is pretty low. Most FBOs only teach private and maybe instrument, and the places that do more careers based training have seperate ground instructors. Plus like you said, it's easy, so get it when and if you find a need for it, otherwise keep your money. |

[/ QUOTE ] Well, if you wanted to be, say, a sim instructor for AA, CAL, Flight Safety, Simuflite, etc you're gonna need that AGI (and probably the IGI). Some 141 schools actually DO teach formal commercial ground schools, so there's that, too. |

| You also need it or an IGI to get your Gold Seal CFI down the road. The gold seal makes nice resume fodder. Chris |

Wanting to be a 142 instructor? hum well your going to need 1500hrs and a type rating first, I'd worry about that first before the AIGI AGI etc |
