How did you all recruit your first students when you were a new CFI? Is most busniness made with walk ins? what kind of advertising works best?

I put a gun to their heads and said, "You get in this plane and you friggin learn!""

Seriously, my first student at the flight school was a call-in. He called, and said that he wanted to get a pilot's license. The CFI he was going to fly with had a side corporate gig and was off on a trip. Well, I had been with the flight school for, oh, 45 minutes, so I covered it.

Alot of the students were walk-ins and call-ins. Some were hand-me-downs. Some were people that saw me wearing my uniform shirt at the movies (true). Or a convenience store. One was a chick that I met in a club. A guy I went to school with.

The list goes on and on and on . . .

I can see it now:

Lloyd: "You wanna dance ?"
chick: "No, not tonight."
Lloyd: "You, should want to dance with me. I'm a Professional Pilot"

This worked because I had access as an employee, but you can do it through a friend.Using legitimate channels I offered a 3-lesson intro package within the company with the tag line "Did you give sock last Christmas" and sold five packages within a very short time. Of the five, one never showed, one took two of the three lessons, and two continued with their training

It won't work on the locals, but tourists it works like a charm. All of my buddies usually meet some spring breakers and they'll spend their hard earned money taking girls flying.
