Default Air Orlando

Hey all, i just graduated and am currently looking for a job. Went to ERAU in DAB, and hear Air Orlando is hiring and they seem like a pretty big flight school. Any word on amount of work, pay, etc.

thanks

Last I heard it was $12/hr, but that was last year. As far as the student load, one week you'll be begging for a day off and the next you'll be begging for ANYONE to walk through the door. The mins for instructing in the Cirrus are pretty high, and I think to do ME instruction it's 200 dual given. Couple of the other ex-instructors from there that post on here probably know more than I do. They're still in my top 5 for places to instruct since I had a lot of good experience there as a student.

It depends on what you want in a flight school. Air Orlando might be good if your biggest point of picking a instructing job includes:
New Planes - Great Fleet

Absolutely the BEST mechanics - They do not skimp on keeping the aircraft in top shape

Good Weather - Its Florida.. Yeah you get the afternoon t-storms but, so does everywhere else.

Good Chief Flight Instructor - (I think he is now the Manager of Airplane Operations) I have more respect for him then anyone else in the industry. He is willing to go to bat for his instructors, and is looking out for them in all cases.

Excellent facility
Nice airport
good surroundings around the airport

BUT, If you have other points that are higher on the priority list such as:
Pay - 12 an hour when instructing
Student stability - Part 61 it fluctuates. There were weeks that 30-40 hours billed were normal, and there were weeks that I would only be able to get 5.
Student Availability - Students will not be given to you, you will need to work to build a base of students.

PM if you have any other questions. I could not see myself instructing any where else, but at the same time, with that pay, I would never be able to go back.
