I was browsing some of the photos at airliners.net and came across a cool one that was kinda special for me. Last December I did my initial CFI (MEI) at Peter O'Knight in Tampa. Here is the photo of the airport. Peter O Knight aerial view On my way back in for the short field landing the winds picked up big time and I had to use the runway on the right. It's pretty short and by far the shortest runway I had ever thought about landing on and I was flying a Seminole at the time. It wasn't my best landing (in fact it was the worst part of my checkride) but everything worked out and he was still impressed enough that I walked away with my ticket. Maybe it's not that big of a deal really but it sure was a confidence builder at the time. If you guys are ever in the area check out the airport, its pretty cool! Just thought I would share the story and the photo! |

Thats great. On my multi ride I thought I royally screwed a single engine approach but the DPE turned it into an educational experience and I'll be damned it served me good. btw, maybe my eyes are bugging out, but there seems to be no road to get to the airport.... |

Tim, did Hirsch do your checkride? I had mine with him too and the short field was on the right side runway as well. Kind of interesting seeing that it was a true shortfield and even with my good landing we used most of the runway so we didn't wear the brakes too bad. Great airport, after I passed the checkride and we left for CRG we barely got off the ground before a cruise ship passed off of the end of Rwy 3. |

Yeah the road peels off around the left side... Can't really see it that well.

Yep, it was Hirsch. Good guy and very educational! Gotta love the subway trip ![]() When we came in the night before around 9pm my fear was all those cranes in front of the longer runway. I guess thats why we practice a sharp descent on our short field landings too! Another interesting thing about this airport is it is set up alot like the AFB nearby, I think McDill? I guess alot of people land at McDill only to find out the FAA is going to take their plane away because they are at the wrong airport. |

You should hear Stan's story about the guy that intended to land at Peter O'Knight, only to execute go arounds at both McDill AND Tampa Int'l.....
